AI-Based Equipment Classification

An Revit add-in that uses AI to convert existing model element metadata into consistent equipment classification attributes.

Revit AI Classification Model Data
AI-based equipment classification workflow

Overview

BIM model elements of electrical equipment often include names, descriptions and technical values that suggest what each device represents, but do not provide a consistent classification attribute. The classifier uses AI to interpret this existing information and write the identified equipment type to a dedicated parameter, creating a structured basis for downstream processes.

Functionality

Turning model context into classification data.

Reads model context

Uses existing names, descriptions, type data and technical values.

Identifies equipment

Determines what each device represents from the available information.

Writes classification

Stores the result in a dedicated parameter for later use.

Value

Consistent classification creates a reliable basis for model enrichment, data checking and information requirements.

Structured attributes

Equipment types are stored in a defined parameter.

Downstream basis

Classification provides the starting point for later data workflows.

Adaptable workflow

The same logic can support other assets and model types.

Part of a broader digital engineering toolkit.

The project supports structured model information, automation-driven workflows and more reliable downstream BIM processes.
